Happy Muslim! What would a Muslim need to be happy? This is a question many ask of me. The answer, not far-fetched as we shall see, Found in a smile, purpose and dignity. If we can dance and sing and sport and play, Will our giddiness drive the bombs away? When asked by the child who was blown away, Standing before our Lord what will we say? That to Satan we had a point to prove? That Muslims can boogie and spank the groove? That we can shake our butts and bust a move? Our Prophet brought us this for hearts to soothe?! These words are not to sadden or depress, They are reminders of how weve been blessed. Prophetic guidance drives away our stress. Leave fun and the theatrics to the rest. For life is short and we may soon pass on. No pleasure lies in dropping the baton. The race is long and many times no fun, But we are judged on just how hard weve run. So gird your loins and struggle with a smile, And scoff at hardship as you pass the miles, Let dignity and grace define your style, Your happiness in defying the guile. Of Satan, ego, world and the caprice, Which when obeyed reduces us to beasts, When we submit to them we are the least, Firmly ensnared in the traps of Iblis. When we defy them happiness will show, Within our minds the light of truth will glow, Inside our hearts our love for God will grow. Upon this path progress will not be slow. Our limbs at peace, so easy to restrain, Our smiling faces shining through the rain, Our stilled hearts links in a very long chain, Connecting us to those who laughed at pain. True happiness is their for us to win. True happiness is when we start again. True happiness a life devoid of sin. True happiness is only found within. Imam Zaid Shakir
