Happy New Year folks! Here is something for 2015... From Ian Burks... YMCA CHALLENGE 2015 Are you looking for a worthwhile and healthy New Year Challenge? Were you inspired by Steve Murphy’s epic 1,000m run from John O Groats to Lands End? Would you like to take on a more manageable but equally rewarding Coast to Coast Challenge? Why not join me for the ‘Wall’ a YMCA long distance 84 mile trek from Coast to Coast along the ancient Hadrian’s Wall. I am looking for a group of determined runners/walkers who can cover 21 miles a day for 4 days, either jogging at 10 mins per mile or walking at up to 20 mins a mile. This will be a great opportunity to see some of the finest scenery in England and to complete an unforgettable feat of endurance along an historic trail from one side of the country to the other. Taking part in the Wall will be a life changing experience, not just for you but also for the vulnerable and disadvantaged people the YMCA helps in East Surrey with their charitable work. The cost of the challenge including transport to the start, 5 nights’ accommodation in bed and breakfast and full support along the trail is £295. We are hoping that each participant will also raise some sponsorship towards a unique new YMCA Inclusive Sports Facility that we are planning to build at Princes Rd. This innovative new centre will offer disability sport and physical activity for those with disabilities and long term ill health. We are setting off from the YMCA to attempt this exciting adventure on Tuesday June 23rd and will be jogging/walking for 4 days from Wednesday 24th June through to Saturday 27th June starting at Bowness on the West Coast and ending with a celebratory dinner and night out in Newcastle. This year we are also offering cycle challenges to the Mont Ventoux and to Bruges and we are running our popular Y2Y marathon from Guildford to Redhill along the North Downs on Sunday 15th March.
