Happy Organic Agriculture Day Davao City! Every December 3rd is declared as the Organic Agriculture Day through a City Resolution No. 0517 – 07 which aims to promote and support Organic Agriculture as an alternative mode of farming, and to give emphasis on the alternatives to the deadly chemicals. This 2014, the celebration will be held at the ALMACEN Building, CatalunanPequeño, Davao City. Around 400 Dabawenyos are expected to attend. In the same way, the global community also commemorates the world’s worst chemical and industrial disaster which happened in 1984. A Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal(India) exploded and released a lethal gas (methyl isocyanate) causing more than 500,000 injured and 20,000 deaths in the years since. Cases of chronic illnesses are still mounting among survivors to this day. The Bhopal tragedy is an example of a tragic instance of chemical pesticide contamination for which its victims continue to suffer to this day. Bhopal has been called the worst commercial industrial disaster in history - but not the last. Around the world the ongoing manufacture, distribution, and use of chemical pesticides continues to wreak devastating impacts on people and the environment.
