Happy Saturday, friends! It’s a peaceful Saturday, March 29, 2014. There comes a time when we too must say “No.” Matthew 4:8-18 “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9) And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10) Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Am I the only one who notices the change in the tone and language of the messages being preached by some very influential men of God over the last several years? It appears to me that some of these messages no longer present the gospel of Jesus Christ, as the only way to salvation; and instead have replaced Him with an assorted series of conversations on how one may best “maximize one’s potential by tapping into the power within.” Invariably, that “power with” directs adherents toward a quest to gain the wealth of this world. If you desire fame and fortune then maybe their message resonates with you. But I suggest to you that those of us who “seek a city whose builder and maker is God” must say “no.” Don’t misunderstand me, friends, we all need to live a prosperous life in Christ and it does take money to get the gospel around the world. However, in many cases, the singular message being presented to folks who apparently, do not know or study the word is nothing more than a repackaged ploy by Satan to get us to bow down and worship him. Our text (Matthew 4:8-10) highlights the fact that our Savior and Lord, Jesus the Christ was faced with the same temptation - Satan offering Him the “kingdoms of the world” if the Lord would “fall down and worship” him. What will your answer be? Like Jesus, we too must say “no.” We will “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness;” knowing that by faith “all these things shall be added” to us. The end does not justify the means. If becoming wealthy means bowing to the devil, we must say “no.” If gaining the world means losing my soul, your soul, then we must say “no.” Finally, we must say “no” because the word of God tells us clearly “…for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Glory to God! Have a glorious and blessed day worshipping our God and King!
