Son Andrew installed as 3rd ward city commissioner last night and nephew Kevin as best grocery bagger in the state. How cool .. and proud. Its November 19th, and history went as follows .. 1863, President Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address .. 1954, Sammy Davis, Jr. was was in a serious car crash, and 3 days later, lost sight in his left eye .. 1959, the cartoon series Rocky and His Friends made its debut .. and in the same year, the last Edsel rolled off the assembly line .. 1961, Chubby Checker sang The Twist on the Ed Sullivan Show, a year after it hit #1 .. 1955, Carl Perkins recorded his famous Blue Suede Shoes in Memphis .. 1953, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that baseball was a sport, not a business (really?) .. and in 1965, the ever-famous Pop Tarts were created. Born on this day were Tommy Dorsey in 05 .. Alan Young (The Time Machine & Mr. Ed) in 19 .. Larry King in 33 .. Dick Cavett in 36 .. Ted Turner in 38 .. Calvin Klein in 42 .. Fred Lipsius of Blood, Sweat & Tears in 44 .. Pete Moore of the Miracles in 39 .. Charlie Coe in 44 and Joe Carerro in 46, both of Paul Revere & the Raiders .. Meg Ryan in 61 and Jodie Foster in 62. And had he lived, my dad, Harry, would have been 94 today. Through his business, Harrys Amusements, who had all the juke boxes, pinballs and pool tables, I never would have gotten into the music and radio business. Miss you dad .. and remembering songwriter/singer Bobby Russell, husband of Vicki Lawrence, who wrote the Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Little Green Apples, Honey, The Joker Went Wild and plenty more .. who we lost in 1992. #1 MSU wins.
