Happy Veterans day to all who have worn the uniform of this great nation. Many were called away from their family and many gave all. We cant thank them but we can thank their families and the ones we still have with us. So with that I thank you all for your service. Each year this day brings a little more sadness as we realize we are ever closer to losing all of the greatest generation ever. The generation of my folks, our WWII vets are indeed the most humble to have ever been a part of this nation. They lived in a time that this world has never again seen to this point. They came through the great depression and built the America we all love today. And when Japan attacked us they came by the thousands to defend America. To fight for their way of life and to see to it that generations to come would know the America they knew. And on that faithful day of the 6th of June in 1944 thousands stormed the beaches across the Atlantic to put an end to the Nazis reign of terror knowing full well that many of them would never again see their families. That was the beginning of the end of the war as they moved across Europe and liberated many from the evil that was of their time. They then moved to the Pacific and wiped out the Japs from every little hole they were hiding in. And now we take this one day to set aside to say thank you. Not sure if thats good enough but for most of them its plenty. To me though it just dont seem to be words to really show how grateful we are. Its great to walk up to one of these older men or women and tell them thank you and reach out your hand to them. I do this on any day of the year when I happen to notice one wearing a cap from the ship or unit they were in. They always smile and tell me thank you. They tell me thank you ? I guess acknowledgement means a lot to them. Its the very least we can do too. I think it would be cool if we all treated them with the respect they so deserve and have earned as well. And maybe when we see then out having lunch maybe we can pick up the bill a time or two. After all, what kind of nation would we have if they said to hell with fighting ? So in Honor and memory of my dad a WWII vet I raise my glass. And to my brothers Wayne Adkins and Jerry, And brother in law Jerry Mash and my nephew Russell Mash and cousin Danny Taylor and all the others both family and friends I dedicate this song to you all. Good night and God Bless you all and God Bless America. https://youtube/watch?v=oB2_j7c0d70
