Happy belated birthday Lisa... The Night Is Not Always So Dark I was revived as she revealed to me the simple power To bring many of my flowers back She was reintroduced by me to moonbeams and star showers Reminders that night skies are not all black She shared with me her silent need to stop, kneel and feel Slipping our fingertips into the soil I asked her to pause, listen and allow herself time to yield Let the trees shield us from the turmoil I told her tales of my garden’s long gone beauty and growth How I had almost let it all die Because of reluctance to nurture, maybe remorse or both I was silent when she asked my “Why?” She broadcast seeds wide across the open, spreading meadow And off into the grove and brush I spoke soft as the hawk, high aloft, watched the sun begin to go And the evening hare held the easy hush I led her lightly through the tranquil tangle of wooded trails The place where oak and cedar embrace We whispered about the dove’s song and the brown deer’s white tail Wondering if we should give chase She showed me her delight that my new moonflowers now thrive Laughing as we strolled my little park The sunflowers, still alive, as the sun continues its dive I remind her that the night is not so dark (twist, tangle) 2011
