Happy birthday to Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. from Orillia, Ontario, Canada, who gave us todays song of the day! Gordon is a master storyteller with his music and this is one of his very best. This song is base on a true incident about a bulk cargo freighter named the Edmund Fitzgerald that sank during a storm on Lake Superior on November 10, 1875, taking all of the crew with her. Gordon heard about it, was inspired and the song reached number 2 in November of 1976, almost a year to the day after the tragedy. This us absolutely my favorite of all his songs. Gordon is 76 today and still performing.
