Happy birthday to guitarist/signer/songwriter Patrick Simmons, of Doobie Brothers fame. Simmons always seemed to be the folksiest of the duo (Black Water was his) that drove the Doobie engine in its salad days, before Tom Johnston fell ill and the recruitment of Michael McDonald transformed them into a poor mans Steely Dan. I loved all those pre-McD Doobies albums, none more so than the swan song for their most creative period, 1975s STAMPEDE, and heres a great Simmons-penned cut from that record.
