Happy birthday to the light of our lives, Dillon, a.k.a. “Mr. D” and “Silly Dilly”. Officially, MACH8 Lock-Eye Gunsmoke. Nine years old on New Year’s Eve, along with all the great ones from his litter: Judy Kolva’s Opal, Dottie Ferguson’s Andy, Laura Christians’ Ace, and Michelle Weese’s Charm – who is the mother of our Legend. Quite the litter that Dinah and Rockin’ G Colt produced. And full sibling to Laura Christian’s JAG and Noreen Scelzo’s Layel. Has there ever been a year that we were not thankful for having this guy in our lives? I don’t think so. And this year has been no exception. He definitely showed his versatility this year by running with and Q-ing with 4 different people during the year (Robin, me, Clyde Closson, Michael Davis). He competed at the AKC Nationals in March, close to home in Harrisburg this year. He got his MACH7 the same April weekend Legend got his MACH; and he got his MACH8 with Robin in October. He started doing UKI in March and at the US Open in NC in November, he was one of the 8 finalists in his jump height. And he started the new agility year with a bang: 3 days, 3 double Qs. He’ll be qualified for Tulsa in 2016 quite quickly. More than all his agility achievements, he just further cemented himself in our hearts, as he has always done. While Robin’s been recuperating from her surgery last week, Dillon has been her constant companion and we know that he is trustworthy and would never jump on her, push her, or anything like that. He just lies next to her as a comforting companion. Of course, he has appropriated one of the long body pillows that we put on the bed for Robin. She gets one, and he gets one. A guy has to be comfortable, even when he’s the “nurse dog”. And as always, his personality and “sense of humor” are endearing. His big bugaboo in agility is when he decides to make an executive decision: he gives you that look that says, “don’t worry guys, I have this one”. You know you’re in trouble because his executive decisions are usually wrong ☺ And when you stop and look at him for that, he looks back with that “Whaa? Whaa? What’s wrong? What’s the problem here?”. We just love this guy. Attached is our favorite picture of Dillon; I think this was taken in the summer of 2012, about 6 months after his cancer surgery. He clearly was back to his old, happy self.
