Yesterday’s key activities included several helicopter missions to bring remaining equipment and firefighters off of the fire in preparation for the upcoming storm event. Crews continued work securing containment lines and mopping up hot spots inside the fire perimeter throughout much of the day prior to being pulled out in anticipation of this storm. All containment lines remain secure. The area of uncontained fire, located in the Wooley Creek area of the Marble Mountain Wilderness, continued to slowly back down towards the creek yesterday. In the north, firefighters assigned to the Happy Camp Complex assisted the Klamath National Forest by responding to one new fire start in the area. This new start was quickly contained at less than one acre. Significant demobilization of resources also occurred yesterday, as containment increases and fire suppression repair work reaches completion. Today rain showers are expected over the entire fire area. Fire activity is predicted to be minimal through the storm period. However, isolated areas of heat may remain in heavy fuels and timber within the fire’s interior following the rain event, and interior smokes may continue to be observed. A Burned Area Emergency Repair (BAER) team is in place, and is working on a plan for repair of the lands directly impacted by the fire. For more information on the BAER program, please see nifc.gov/BAER/Page/NIFC_BAER.html. Resources: 7 Crews, 9 Helicopters, 13 Engines, 11 Dozers, 26 Water Tenders Total Personnel: 530 Closures and Restrictions: A Forest Closure remains in effect for the Klamath National Forest and the entire fire area.
