Hard Times Come Again No More music arranged by Frankie Gavin, recorded for Festival Radio Scotland & used on a Media Education film on Homelessness. https://vimeo/114774574 Just finished editing, I had been about to post yesterday but got caught up watching the news re George Square & recalling the Cluatha accident last year - indeed, Hard Times Come No More... When I had to think of a piece of music to open our film on Homelessness, this had been the first song which came to mind. Our film ending on a positive note, we wanted to show how people can change their life around, that after loss, confusion and sadness - there can be hope and change which lets the person move forward. For the beginning of the film, I could see how well Hard Times would fit with that. BUT how could such a tragically sad, emotionally powerful and moving song, how could that be make to sound hopeful? On the spot (because Frankie was rushing to a plane and Id only just thought to mention this to him) - there and then he stood for a moment and said, variations on that tune could change it. Frankie had helped us already by taking part in an interview and mentioning work he was doing with a charity to help people in Ireland - he was keen to give this a try. There was no time for a play through (we were already 5 minutes late in leaving for the airport). With the musical thought he played the music for the first time and this is what we captured. A big thanks to Frankie Gavin and Colm OCaoimh - a sad piece of music made more hopeful. And hope is something we all need...
