Harmon Sanders Dickson, Sr. Services for Harmon Sanders Dickson, Sr. will be held Wednesday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Meridian, with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating. Entombment will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Chapel Mausoleum, Parkway Memorial Cemetery, Ridgeland, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Dickson, 90, of Meridian, died Saturday, October 4, 2014, at North Pointe Health and Rehabilitation with his loving family at his bedside. Harmon was born May 22, 1924, in Carrollton, MS to Lawrence Jones Dickson and Mattie Taylor Dickson. After graduating from J. Z. George High School in North Carrollton, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines at the war’s end. He was also a member of the American Legion. In 1945, he married Frances Morea Brown and they moved to Jackson, where he attended business school and later the Jackson branch of the University of Mississippi. He began working for Desoto Furniture Company, formerly Mississippi Products, in the 1940’s, as cost accountant, where he was an active member of the Key Men’s Club. He served as Manager of the Cost Accounting Department at the plant’s closure in the 1980’s, then worked for Sanderson Farms until his retirement in 1988. Harmon and Frances lived in the Jackson and Madison areas and were longtime members of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he helped establish Hillcrest Christian School, serving as Treasurer for thirteen years. After the move to Madison, they became members of Highland Colony Baptist Church and later Parkway Hills United Methodist Church. They moved to Meridian in 2007 and were faithful members of First Baptist Church. Harmon was an avid sports fan, especially following the Golden Eagles of The University of Southern Mississippi. He was also a Little League baseball coach. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all of us. We have wonderful lifelong memories and will especially remember his laugh. He was even dubbed, “Happy Pappy” by his youngest grandchild. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Frances; daughters, Marcia A. Brewer (Tommy) of Meridian, Dorothy A. Moore of Hattiesburg, MS, and sons, Harmon “Sam” Dickson, Jr. (Tammy) of Edmund, OK, and Dr. John A. Dickson (Lisa) of Terry, MS; fourteen grandchildren, Shea Brewer Leake (Ben), Matthew Brewer (Elizabeth Hill Anderson, fiancé), and Elliot Brewer (Betsy), all of Meridian, Win Moore, Erin Moore, Davis Moore, and Olivia Moore, all of Hattiesburg, Brittany Dickson Tenini (Michael) of Dallas, TX, Brooke Dickson, Jordan Dickson and Taylor Dickson, all of Edmund, OK, and Anna Kate Dickson, John “Jack” Dickson, II, and Hayes Dickson, all of Terry. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mallory, and Lindsey Leake, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Harmon is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elsie Dickson, and brothers, Amazon Dickson, L.J. Dickson, George Dickson, and William Dickson.
