Harolds Box Office Picks April 18-20th I was off a bit but not to much. Last weekends top 3 were: 1)Captain America: The Winter Soldier Wknd: $41,274,861 Per day average: $10,481 Total: $174,883,032 as of the 18th Worldwide: $510 million Budget: $170 million 2)Rio 2 Wknd: $39,327,869 Per day average: $9,961 Total: $39,327,869 Worldwide: $177 million Budget: $103 million 3)Oculus Wknd: $12,005,402 Per day average: $4,534 Total: $12,005,402 Worldwide: $17 million Budget: $5 I choose the 1st 2 but the 3rd one was unexpected. Horror movies hit well at times when they are new and original. I’m not to keen into Horror. The remainder top 10 are: 4)Draft Day, Wknd: $9,783,603, Total: $84,975,242, Budget: $125 5)Noah, Wknd: $7,553,607, Total: $84,975,242, Worldwide: $250 million, Budget: $125 6)Divergent, Wknd: $7,380,460, Total: $124,757,453, Worldwide: $178 million, Budget: $85 7)Gods Not Dead, Wknd: $5,540,678, Total: $40,897,990, Budget: $2 8)The Grand Budapest Hotel, Wknd: $4,069,245, Total: $39,488,800, Worldwide: $105 million 9)Muppets Most Wanted, Wknd: $2,275,944, Total: $45,752,991, Worldwide: $62 million, Budget: $50 10)Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Wknd: $1,872,803, Total: $105,262,782, Worldwide: $250 million, Budget: $145 “Draft Day” seems to be doing nominal, “Noah” has doubled its number, “Divergent” is still going, and “Gods Not Dead” is doing well, very well. “Grand Budaphest Hotel” is doing better internationally, “Muppets..” has a way to go and “Sherman...” has made its mark. Many films still in top 20 . 11)”The Raid 2” 12)”Non-Stop” 13)”Need for Speed” 14)”Bad Words” 15)”The LEGO Movie” 16)”300: Rise of An Empire” 17)”Frozen” 18)”Sabotage (2014)” 19)”Son of God” 20)”Cesar Chavez” Obviously “Non Stop, Need for Speed, The Lego movie, & Frozen” are doing well, when the others don’t share their budgets, they obviously are doing not so well. “Frozen” has done 1 Billion over its budget. WOW. That producer loves his life. I guess we future producers would love a “Frozen” in our future projects. Ok this weekend, we have a few new films, some spiritual and some lets say cute. April 16 Theaters “Heaven is for Real” 2,417 April 18 Theaters “Bears” 1,720 “A Haunted House 2” 2,310 “Transcendence” 3,455 “Make Your Move” 142 “Heaven is for Real” is a movie preview i saw a month ago and it interested me into its spiritual story of a boy and his father becoming aware of his son’s gifts. Written and Directed by Randall Wallace, who worked on “Braveheart, Pearl Harbor, The Man with the Iron Mask, We Were Soldiers and Starman”. A well written story teller and this movie probably has some the best of him coming out. “Heaven is for Real” seems to be a real sweet story with actors; Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Thomas Haden Church and child star Connor Corum. “The Bears” is a Documentary from Disney, directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey that stars John C. Reilly is the narrator. Its a cute story of the lives of Bear cubs. The next one is “A Haunted House 2”, directed by Michael Tiddes and stars Marlon Wayans, Jaime Pressly, Cedric the Entertainer. Its basically a sequel to 1st one and is a horror film. It must have a following, I really don’t care for horror movies. “Make your Move”, Directed by Duane Adler and stars Derek Hough, BoA, Will Yun Lee, is a story about dancers and their night lifestyles and tribulations. I do love good musicals. Now for the big one, “Trancendence”, directed by Wally Pfister and stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman and written by Jack Paglen, is a story of life after death thru a computer and twisting the world to that souls aspirations. Its a transformative meets spiritual story. Johnny Depp is the lead so obviously its going to be a hit in some worlds and twist the consciousness a bit. I’m seeing this one. Has an array of actors and we’ll have to see how the public eats it up. Wally Pfister makes the movie happen with his skills and history of “Batman” movies and “Inception” My picks for this week will be: 1)“Transcendence” 2)“Captain America 2” 3)“RIO” I think thats the mainstream pick as well so lets see and wait. Enjoy this Easter, 420, Earthday weekend.
