Has the price of groceries shocked you lately? A year ago, I - TopicsExpress

Has the price of groceries shocked you lately? A year ago, I bought 4 avocados for $1 (on sale). A week ago, my local market advertised avocados for $1.68 each! A big thanks to my sis Lynn for sharing the info that food manufacturers use a 6-8 week cycle of cutting prices to boost sales. For the prudent home economist, that means you know how much to stock up when buying on a deep price reduction on your favorite foodstuffs. You buy enough to last 6-8 weeks, then watch for the next sale to stock up again. I have decided to start a PRICE JOURNAL, once cold weather is here and my time is freed up from outdoor chores. I want to record prices weekly on my favorite staples for a 16 week period to see if I can predict (and mark on the calendar and shopping list) the next price cut. For those items that do show a pattern in pricing, I will pre-plan my purchases and stock up when the price is low.
