Hatfield residents celebrate ‘night to shine’ HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – People in Hatfield took the time Sunday night to celebrate the lives of those they’ve lost around this time of the year. It’s a way to honor those who have passed around the holiday season and to shed light on any dark times that people may have had around this time of year. This was the city’s 34th annual Luminarium, and people around town have placed luminaries outside their homes as well. Sunday tonight was special because it fell on the Solstice this year. At 6:00 Sunday night, we officially entered the beginning of the winter season. This event is also known as Hatfield’s ‘night to shine’, to chase away any darkness that people experience during the winter or have experienced during the winter. To celebrate, there were carolers by the Smith Academy Brass Ensemble, and there will be a visit from Santa. Tune in to 22News after Sunday Night Football to hear from members of the community about why they came out Sunday night.
