Haunted or Not Abandoned Schoolhouse , Calgary ,Alberta ,Canada The abandoned schoolhouse is known for not wanting to be demolished. The legend claims that what remains of this historic schoolhouse is indestructible. While the schoolhouse was in operation, a fire started in a hallway and three children lost their lives. Some people have reported hearing the children laughing, playing and even one falling down. The mystery goes even farther, around two years after the fire and the death of these three children they tried in vain to tear down the old schoolhouse. The Calgary city workers began what they thought would be an easy feat, just tear down an old abandoned schoolhouse. However, to their astonishment around half of them became very ill and unable to work. The schoolhouse was left in tact, which is only about half of it standing after the fire. A wrecking ball was used in the next attempt. However, the motor just quit. No matter what was tried, the motor would not start and demolition was halted without even one nail or board moved on the schoolhouse. Upon returning to the construction site, the wrecking ball and motor worked perfectly fine. The third attempt was again with a wrecking ball, this time the ball fell. No one else has tried to tear down the schoolhouse and I guess the children are still laughing and playing in their schoolhouse to this day. by Kattnypp kattnypp.blogspot.co.uk/ - Go onto International avenue, off of 52nd street. Take a left at the first set of lights you see after passing the 68th street intersection. Go down that road about half way and keep looking to youre left. Ive been out to the haunted school house I believe it is. Pretty cool. It actually burnt down is what I was told, and was never demolished. Many signs stating no tresspassing by the land owner. outdoorsmenforum.ca/ I have just returned from an excursion to a much talked about abandoned school in the Chestemere area of Calgary. I decided to investigate because the description was so intriguing... supposedly two childred persihed in a fire at the school, and their ghosts still frequent the site. There are also stories that when trying to demolish the remnants of the building, the wrecking equipment broke down. A crane and wrecking ball were then supposedly brought in, only to have the cable break and the wrecking ball go flying. Also, their are reports of a crazy old codger who scares away curious people by shooting them with a shotgun primed with rock salt. Anyway, my husband and I went out there today. The site itself is definitely spooky looking, with the walls of the old school standing c**k-eyed as if they were about to fall down. The entire area was marked by many signs posting no trespassing, and steel barriers blocked the road to the school. It appears to be on the property of a farmer. I decided that rather that ignoring the no trespassing signs, I would look for the owner, and ask permission to visit the site. It took a while to find him, as the site is covered with old buildings, sheds, barns, shops, etc., but eventually we did find him. We were nervous about approaching him, but told him that we would rather have permission to visit the site, rather that be tresspassers. He turned out to have a wonderful personality, and we visited with him for about 1/2 hour. We asked him if the site was haunted, and he said no. We asked him if anyone had been killed in the school fire, and he said. not a soul. We asked hime if he had ever experienced any paranormal activity around the school, and he said, Never. We asked him about the stories of the attempted demolition of the school, and the supposed problems with it. He said none of theose stories were true. He told us that his family had lived on that site since 1903, and there had never been anything unusual happen. He himself had attended the school. He told us that he didnt know why the place had the reputation of being haunted. He said there is a constant stream of people coming to gawk and snoop, mostly at night. He says that when that happens he calls the police to get the curious off of his property. I think that he was kind and open to us, because we had asked permission to see the school, instead of just trespassing. He seemed to appreciate that. I am convinced that all the ghostly tales about the school are simply folklore, and there is not a shred of truth to them. Anyone have different experiences at this site? forums.beyond.ca/ Photos by by Kattnypp
