Have You Ever Seen the Rain is a song written by John Fogerty and released as a single in 1971 from the album Pendulum (1970) by roots rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival. The song charted highest in Canada, reaching number one on the RPM 100 national album chart in March 1971. In the US, it peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the same year. On Cash Box pop chart, it peaked at number three. Billboard co-listed the b-side Hey Tonight. In the UK, it reached number 36. It was the groups eighth gold-selling single. Creedence Clearwater Revival seemed like something of an anomaly in the psychedelic 1960s. Far removed from the mind-expanding, flower-power explorations of their California contemporaries, they were a gritty, hard-hitting band respectful of their blues, country, and rock & roll roots. John Fogertys cutting, raspy voice bore echoes of Howlin Wolf and Little Richard as he delivered lyrics that alternately celebrated and bemoaned a working mans life. In a rare instance of art and commerce coinciding, CCRs stream of hit singles made them one of the most successful 60s rock bands. The band broke up acrimoniously in the early 70s, but Fogerty went on to a successful (if sporadic) solo career. Creedence Clearwater Revival was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.[3] Rolling Stone ranked the band 82nd on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.[4] Their musical influence can be heard in many genres including southern rock, grunge, roots rock, and blues.
