Have You Noticed This Being Media Ignored Lately- There Is A Reason Indulge this post if you are so inclined...or ignore it if you wish. As always, your choice. Read and think about this and let’s not be sarcastic, ignorant or blind. I’m challenging the intellect of this group. The sky is not falling… yet, and this is not something any of us want to face. But, I would like to see if there are any truly realistic, informed and intelligent comments on this. Ramifications are beyond political. This has been a bi-partisan undertaking on the part of our current Congress especially the Senate since they approved of all treaties in accordance to Article II Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution. Russia invaded Ukraine within just days of the 2014 Winter Olympiad. The hospitable and peaceable sponsor of the Games will possibly unleash World War III, a conflict that will result in untold destruction and loss of human life. With the conclusion of the Games, Russias expansionist policies and the persecution of Ukraine and other manufactured enemies of the state” will accelerate, culminating in a holocaust that the USA, Europe and our other allies cannot afford, but cannot afford to ignore. Ukraine is NOT a NATO member although the US, UK and Russia have treaty obligations to protect her under the Budapest Memorandum Treaty that could theoretically take any treaty underwriting countries to war since Ukraine has been invaded by another country. This de-facto invasion of Ukraine by Russia is not being disputed internationally. Under the Budapest Memorandum Treaty Ukraine, then the 3rd largest nuclear country gave up its 3,000+ nuclear warheads in exchange for territorial integrity guarantees provided by the United States, United Kingdom and Russia. That means that if ANYONE invades Ukraine that the United States and the United Kingdom would provide whatever protection was needed to insure that country from invasion by any other nation, including Russia....in exchange for their nuclear deterrent. President Putin has declared the current Ukrainian government as illegitimate therefore all previous treaties are invalid including and especially the Budapest Memorandum Treaty. If that is in fact Putins position regarding treaties with Ukraine, then the 1954 agreement with then Russian President Nikita Khrushchev is also invalid in regards to the Russian Black Sea Naval Fleet base leased under contract to Russia by Ukraine at the now disputed Crimean peninsula. Russian President Putin takes his action under the pretext of protecting the ostensibly vast Russian population (17.6% of the entire Ukraine). Although there has been unnatural and outwardly manufactured concern among the ethnic Russian citizens of Ukraine, there has been no substantiating proof of any reported abuses, other than from Russian controlled news outlets, giving its support to the alleged abuses. In fact it appears to be quite to the contrary. The ethnic Ukrainians are visually under attack. It seems the local ethnic Russian populations have been propagandized into military posturing, including attacks on military installations, the Ukrainian populations living in the southern and eastern sections of Ukraine as well as the Crimean peninsula. This all seems to be being done under the watchful eye, if not the direct participation of the Russians themselves. President Obama has ordered the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (see attachment) and a sizable armada to the Bosporus Strait, near Turkey (NATO member) which overlooks the entire entrance to the Black Sea. This task force is easily within strike range of all of Ukraine if needed, including all the Crimean peninsula and Russia itself. This is one aircraft carrier group. We have up to 14 additional battle ready carrier groups. Plainly put, we own the sea militarily. There are also 24+ F16’s stationed in Poland and Lithuania and we essentially have 300+ U.S. Marines on the Russian border all under the umbrella of NATO. With all this NATO firepower in the region, if Putin follows through with his presumed intentions regarding annexing Ukraine back into a USSR renaissance this will only be accomplished by military force because the Ukrainian Army and people will fight, however outnumbered they are. Ukraines defense disparity and massive human losses assured due to United States guarantees of territorial sovereignty promised them at Budapest, Hungary in 1994. What will we do? With so many NATO assets close to that area and tensions as high as they will be upon any unrelentingly destructive invasion by Russia, it is not at all unlikely that NATO will inadvertently become involved militarily. It could be perpetuated by design of Putin himself, a careless Russian MIG pilot, a rouge Russian General, Russian soldiers crossing into a NATO country border, or any other scenarios you might imagine. The USS George H.W. Bush and its Carrier Group could easily destroy the entire Black Sea Russian Fleet of 130+ warships, all its port facilities and most of its armed defenses, including mostly all of its standing army...collateral damages not withstanding. Putin will then need to decide if he wishes to escalate into nuclear war and the consequences it brings to his people and country…not to mention ours. My feelings are that he will not take it to that level. We will see a re-evaluation by President Putin that President Obama, the United States and our world allies are not a force to be reckoned with. De-escalation then occurs...God willing. There are no rosy conclusions here. But, due to Putin’s aberrant and bellicose behavior it will be now or later. President Obama has acted firmly and decisively while desperately seeking a diplomatic solution throughout. The U.S. House and Senate knows it is time that we stand together on this in the current bi-partisan fashion, whether in negotiations or in war, and they have so far demonstrated this much. As I see it we have fought pugnaciously for much lesser causes. If you are so inclined, shall we pray this scenario will never play out. Now…any thoughts?
