Have a laugh—as I did, out loud, at this sequence while watching the new documentary ELECTRIC BOOGALOO, a dizzyingly compact history of Cannon Films that was the flashback explosion I was promised in high school if I dared to ever take LSD. A very short clip from this astonishing sequence had me in stitches, and I realized Id seen damned near every Cannon Film in the movie (either in theaters or via video) in the 1980s and early 1990s. Amazingly, what ELECTRIC BOOGALOO reminded me MOST of from my own life was Tundra Publishing, Kevin Eastmans short-lived empire that I was part of almost from conception. It was a mini-Cannon Films for print, folks. That sums it up perfectly. Thanks to Nancy Collins for this clip this morning and a badly needed chuckle, and above all to John Harrison for making sure I saw this documentary, also sorely needed lifting of the spirits for 108 minutes.
