Have been nominated by Diarmaid OCromtha to come up with 5 songs - TopicsExpress

Have been nominated by Diarmaid OCromtha to come up with 5 songs that mean something to me and to nominate 5 others to do same. Meant to be over 5 days but its nearly Christmas so doing it all in one post. These arent my 5 favourite songs (not even favourite songs by these artists as it goes) but each song triggers an emotional response good or bad. Sorry it took me so long Crummy :) 1. Try A Little Tenderness - The Commitments (1991) dailymotion/video/x4h514_the-commitments-try-a-little-tender_music Makes me think of a day spent in town with my Mum in 1991, near Christmas. Bought this on CD single in Golden Discs on Henry Street at the end of a lovely Christmassy day. On a similar note - anything of Legend - the best of Bob Marley brings fond memories of my mum as she had the cassette worn out from listening to it on repeat in the kitchen. 2. About A Girl (Unplugged) - Nirvana (1994) https://youtube/watch?v=AhcttcXcRYY Makes me think of a friend from school who we lost in 94. He introduced me to this album at a time where I was more interested in listening to film scores. Would listen to the unplugged album on repeat on my yellow Sony sports walkman and became hungry for more, luckily during an incredible year for music so over the course of a few months discovered Beastie Boys, Blur, Beck, Bjork and loads of bands that didnt start with B. 3. This A Low (Live at Féile 1995) https://youtube/watch?v=AhcttcXcRYY Was already a Blur fan at this point - was stuck down in Fountainstown with my parents for the summer of 95 wishing I was back home knacker drinking with friends. RTE had coverage of from Feile including 30 mins from Blurs headline set. When it got to Graham Coxons guitar solo in This is a Low something clicked in my brain and made me realise they were my favourite band (back then at least). Seem them live 5 times now and each time it got to This is a Low I get goosebumps and throat lumps. 4. Dirt In The Ground (Live Version) (2008) https://youtube/watch?v=5CZ7E7bIgWQ (Better quality from a different show: https://youtube/watch?v=eRXxL6Ga5Dk) Tom Waits - Live in Dublin August 1st 2008. I will never see a better gig in all my days. He played for 3 hours with no support and it was magic. One of my fondest memories, musical or not. You know when you see footage of religious folks in America completely enraptured in a sermon - this is the closest a heathen like me is ever going to get to witness such godlike brilliance. Love also how spiritual this song feels, given the very non-spiritual message :) You could have heard a pin drop, the audience were his. 5. Have You Ever Been In Love - The Divine Comedy (2010) https://youtube/watch?v=h0n_FaSLC70 An innocuous little song, but on this list as myself and Anne Marie Walker chose it for our first dance ditty when we got legally hitched on March 12th 2011. Instant fond memories of a lovely day. Family, Friends, Dining, Drinking, Dancing. Doug Sheridan doing a cartwheel during the National Anthem. And my lovely wife, looking lovely, formally and legally agreeing to our union, going forward. Nice one. Lots of folk already nominated I see, but Id like to hear from the following: Billy Gillooley, Doug Sheridan, Barry Reid, Tim Haynes & Yvonne Heery
