Have very well observed this discrimination when I organised a conference ....... female speakers are given less priority and very strategically and under cover of good sounding reasons are pushed to less valuable slots .... as also how males try to get the prime time slots and prime importance for themselves trying to be fool females with words but it is up to us females how to counter these views and fight for our rights ... If we can show our potential in the time slots allotted to us in spite of that we r a winner and yes ..... help other females dont drag them down to make space for urself ..............and respect and honour males who r not like the general males and have respects for ur gender and give it the due !! A world where exchanging bawdy jokes is an integral part of male bonding, sharing lewd female pictures acceptable, and where the worst possible abuses include mention of mothers and sisters, can we possibly expect men to be deeply sensitised to women and their issues? How, for instance, can we expect an Om Prakash Chautala to understand what is wrong with his saying that lowering the marriageable age of girls will help protect them? Or for Sheila Dikshit to understand why it is wrong for her to say women should not be adventurous. The process has to indeed start very early, at the mother’s knee and in schools during a child’s most formative years. Our stories, fables and school texts need to be re-examined to weed out gender biases and references emanating from traditional patriarchal mindsets. But going beyond, how do men in top positions get incentivised to push for women? We cannot possibly leave it to their goodwill and questionable sensitivities alone. It is here that media and women play a critical role. Media bashing draws attention to unacceptable mindsets and statements, keeping people on their toes. Women groups must also keep a hawk’s eye on all institutions, professions and individuals, and keep pushing for their cause. Boardrooms, corner offices, armed forces, even what may seem like an innocuous discussion panel on TV ¬ all must be persuaded to have a fair share of women participants.
