Have you ever had a friend that continually tells you the same - TopicsExpress

Have you ever had a friend that continually tells you the same story over and over. Reliving his “glory days?” Or have you ever had one of those friends who is a “one upper?” – (meaning whatever story you tell, no matter how cool it is, he has a story that is better, or cooler?) I have this idea that Peter was probably one of those guys. I can see it now – the apostles are sitting around a fire and one of them begins to tell the story of when they saw Jesus heal a leper, or raise a man from the dead, when all of sudden Peter interjects his story about how one day he walked on water with Jesus. Im sure this opportunity forever changed Peters’ life. This was the most epic day in the life of Peter that he continued to talk about it till the day he died. I gotta be honest. Peter had every right to share that story over and over. When I think about Peter walking on water. The first that comes to my mind is the other 11 guys that were sitting in the boat that had the same opportunity – but instead of “surfing” waves of opportunity –they chose to sit. The way I understand this story is that the other 11 were too scared to get out of the boat. In fact it sounds like the other 11 disciples tried to talk Peter out of getting out of the boat. They were not only scared for Peter – they were scared for their own lives. Peter was a daredevil. Peter was the disciple who just took leaps of faith without hesitation. Peter was a true surfer at heart. Many people believe that Peter was immature and sketchy but I think Peter personifies what a true surfer looks like.
