Have you ever played the game Whack-A-Mole? Okay, so my thoughts - TopicsExpress

Have you ever played the game Whack-A-Mole? Okay, so my thoughts tend to wander something fierce most days, but this game actually came to mind the other day when I was looking for something ‘old school’ to play on the tablet. So three things were made clear the second I started noggin-tapping these varmints back into their virtual underground: (1) This was nowhere NEAR as satisfying as physically pounding the rodents with that ginormous squishy hammer at the arcade. (2) For accuracy’s sake, this game should really be renamed Whack-A-Prairie Dog or Whack-A-Gopher as I have NEVER seen a mole curiously poking its creepy little head up from its earthly domain. (3) The game is actually a pretty good representation of our spiritual life. (bet you didn’t see that one coming, did you?) “Foxhole Prayers”…Jentezen Franklin describes that term as the prayers we pray when, and ONLY when, our lives go into a tailspin. In essence, we hide out in our little holes, only poking our heads out to cry out to God when our surroundings become unbearable. And with the devil constantly swinging his deceiving hammer, reminding us that our holes are where we belong and convincing us that God doesn’t really hear our prayers, we’re content to reside in those holes. We’re good with our prison cells. We’re okay to wander around a desert for 40 years. But that’s NOT God’s plan! That’s NOT His will! In fact, “He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.” [Psalm 144:1 NLT] Step out of your hole, gear up [Ephesians 6:13-17], and begin your walk with Christ. Will life be smooth sailing from then on? Of course not! “God being with you has nothing to do with having a perfect life. Life in general is a battle. However, when God is with you, you are no longer fighting the battle of life in your own limited strength, but in His unlimited strength.” [Jentezen Franklin]
