Have you ever seen your dog go very still and stare at something - TopicsExpress

Have you ever seen your dog go very still and stare at something or someone very intensely? Lets talk about this body language. If you let this energy escalate the next step is gonna be a lunge or a growl or full on run to whatever it is they are that intent on. It can be called prey drive. They stare at it, get real quiet, then pounce. The trick is too stop it before it gets to the next level. IF you see the dog go still offer a correction. The correction has to always match the intensity of the dog. Let it be a noise, a touch, a jaw pop, a knee in the side. Its about whatever breaks their attention from the "thing" and onto you. THe quicker you catch it and correct it the easier it is to stop it. When working on a aggressive dog if i can give a correction before they actually bite, i usually avoid the bite. Good luck!!
