In the beginning: Arriving from New Caledonia on 29 September, 1942, NCB 14 would be assigned to construct an air base at Aola, Guadalcanal but, when soil conditions were found insufficient, they were assigned to assist NCB 6 at Henderson Field. These Battalions were fragmented, not reaching full compliment until December. And, toward the end: By September, 1944, the 25th NCB was united as a battalion and ashore on Guam and would remain so until the end of the war. They had been joined by the 13th Special NCB and CBMU 515, all as a part of the 5th Construction Regiment established specifically for Guam which would be home to a major air base. At the end of 1944, the bombing of Japan was in full swing with targets only 1500 miles away. The island of Iwo Jima would be the next to be taken.
