Have you ever used Kinesiology taping as a means to help protect/heal an injury and/or preventatively to avoid injury during activity???? Here are the answers to the WHAT, WHY and HOW!!! WHAT: Kinesiotape is a breathable and water resistance elastic tape that is applied to the skin specifically targeting a body region and/or a specific muscle group. WHY: 1) Increased blood flow and lymphatic flow to decrease swelling/inflammation (minimal tape tension) 2) Inhibition of muscle activity to dampen tension within a muscle group (moderate tape tension) 3) Facilitation of muscle activation to provide mechanical and functional corrections (severe-full tape tension) HOW: Due to its inherent properties of being adhesive and heat activated it can stay on for 3-5 days allowing you to shower and continue your activity without fear of it coming off. The elasticity and tension to which you apply the tape causes a constant pull on the tissue to lift the fascia and allow blood tunneling to occur. Therefore, the tape helps to assist in the process and speed of recovery. It also allows increased proprioception and decreased pain. At 360 Physical Therapy, we use Performtex tape regularly to treat our clients and see great results! For more information, check out their website at: ptexsport/the-ptex-story/
