Have you ever wondered why in some hypnotherapy approaches Gestalt Therapy, as e.g. the chair therapy in the forgiveness process and the gestalt dialog are so central? Book recommendation: “THE GESTALT APPROACH AND EYE-WITNESS TO THERAPY” by Fritz Perls (1973) Fritz Perls did not write many books in comparison with some other therapeutic writers although we also know of his work through films taken in his teaching and therapeutic centre at Esalen in the later period of his life. This book starts with the words, “Any reasonable approach to therapy not hiding itself behind a professional jargon must be comprehensible to the intelligent layman, and must be grounded in the facts of human behaviour. If not, there is something wrong with it.” His Gestalt method focussed on the present moment, the drama rather than the history, what is being shown by the client in their movements, their gestures, their speech and how they interact in the therapy session (much of Perls’ later work was with groups). Gil Boyne studied and worked with Fritz Perls and, realising that Gestalt dialogues are greatly facilitated by hypnosis, made this a core part of his Transforming Therapy method. Gil also reported through personal contact he discovered that Perls himself had learned hypnosis and had used it clinically in Germany. book link below:
