Have you experienced the beauty that is The Book of Life? This new film from director Jorge Gutierrez and producer Guillermo del Toro features the voice talents of Ron Perlman, Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna, Christina Applegate and many more. This visually stunning work also features the work of a slew of incredibly talented animators, including Interlochen Arts Academy Alumnus Don Dixon. Don was so kind as to send us an email and is allowing us to share his thoughts here. Enjoy! And thank you, Don! Not a day goes by that I do not remember the things I learned at Interlochen. My passion and drive just blossomed in my time at IAA. It was not an easy trip from IAA to finally animating for feature films. But dammit I did it! So I would love it if you would let any aspiring animators at the school know, that dreams do come true. Most importantly though, do the art for the love, then you find you are doing it all the time. The growth will happen naturally. If I could go back in time to IAA I would take advantage of every aspect of that school. I would become best friends with a composer, who could score a short film. I would make friends with all the performing arts students, so I can use them as voices for animation and for video reference. I would team up with writers, and come up with a kick ass story! On and on! Not to say that in my time there I did not soak up everyone one and every moment. I certainly did.
