Have you noticed while reading any Bengali newspaper nowadays, all the news is either about TMC beating other political party members, rape, robbery, murder, suicide, autocratic decisions by Mamata that will shame any dictators or about grievances on things not being done as promised. To contrast, I was trying to read English newspapers (or editions) from Gujarat. There is a lot about new industry, automotive hub in Sanand, massive plant set up by Ford, new water distribution projects using extra water from Sardar Sarovar dam in those papers. On one hand, in West Bengal, it is absolute pessimism. On other hand, states like Gujarat are leaving us behind by miles. In addition, West Bengal is a passage way for all terrorists through Bangladesh. Our state police is utterly incompetent and has no capability to stop the blasts when they start. Using the infiltrators and local Muslims, villages after villages are being Islamized and radicalized either through force or through fear and the whole administration is watching as a mere spectator. How can we ever catch up (other than continuing to export our laborers for manual work to other states, countries and to export our bright students to work according to their merit in other parts of world, leaving behind old parents, vulnerable family members in a lawless state and often coming back to broken homes)? Who can turn this around for us? If we let it continue without any change, where will we be in 30 years?
