Have you seen the light as it strolls towards the end of the day. Or watched a butterfly soar above the flowers on its way. Each moment that arises comes and goes and yet leaves its essence all around. It is like a song once finished lingers its memory forever enshrined in sound. There is a parable about a sage and a farmer where the sage teaches about the holy worlds and the farmer teaches about the worlds of growing of the earth and of the seeds. At one point the sage says that heaven opens in response to prayer. The farmer smiles and says it is the same with the earth. How can this be so? Asked the sage. Prayers may be directed above or below. At after all the earth is a sphere, The farmer replied and was about to go on... I dont follow, The sage said. We stand upon the earth and pray our prayers are exactly like the vegetables and flowers I grow. We have to start somewhere here on the ground. The seed begins in the earth. In order to break the top soil and burst through the ground to produce its fruit it must aspire for its connection with heaven. The same is true with our prayers. Prayers are the seeds of heaven and our faith in Hashem is the nurturing that sun and water and fertile soil are to the growing plants, The farmer told him. The sage smiled and said, Perhaps we should sit under this tree a while and speak things of Torah. Yes and while the plants grow may our prayers ascend to heaven to find their holy place, The farmer told him spreading a blanket for them to sit on the ground under a shade tree.
