Have your say on how to make health services in West Norfolk fit for the future Local people are being invited to attend a series of drop-in events being run by NHS West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WNCCG) to have their say on how health services in West Norfolk can be made fit for the future. Set against a backdrop of unrelenting financial pressures, a growing elderly population and rising demand for healthcare, there is a need to find new and better ways of working so that sustainable, high-quality health services can be developed that meet the needs of the population now and into the future. Since October 2014, The ‘Contingency Planning Team’, commissioned by the health regulator Monitor, has been working with patients, clinicians, GPs and staff working in organisations across the local NHS in West Norfolk and beyond to find a system-wide solution to the financial and quality challenges currently faced by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. At these events, a ‘Case for Change’ will be presented that has been compiled from evidence gathered from listening to patients about their experience, meeting with clinicians to review current demands on services and how they are performing, analysing data on predicted population growth and socio-demographic changes and how that will affect healthcare needs in the future, and looking in detail at financial information to identify how to ensure local health services can be delivered in the long term within the NHS budget available for West Norfolk. These drop-in events are one of several points in the programme when local clinical leaders and the Contingency Planning Team wish to explain and test their thinking with staff and local people. The CCG is urging local people to attend the events being held in January where residents will be able to find out more about this work, provide feedback and let us know what additional information you think needs to be considered. Dr Sue Crossman, Chief Officer of WNCCG, said: “We would like to encourage people to come to one of these events to find out more about this work and the opportunities to get involved. This is an important piece of work which is likely to see health services develop in West Norfolk so it is really important that local people are fully informed and engaged.
