Having grown up in the golden age of stand-up comedy, David Brenner was the first of these comics to really capture our attention as kids, and he kept us laughing from that time forward. Unlike almost every one of his contemporaries, his act was completely clean — no foul language or filthy stories at all, or hardly any — but he was absolutely hilarious, showing it COULD be done! And in this weekend when Bill Maher unleashed yet another psychotic attack against God, which seems to have become a prerequisite for comics (George Carlin, Lewis Black, Ricky Gervais, Larry David, Seth MacFarlane, on and on), Brenner never had a religious or political ax to grind, whatever his beliefs. Hell be sorely missed, as will his unique and nearly long-lost brand of comedy...
