Having just completed my junior year in college 56 years ago today on June 23, 1957 I took the liberty of installing myself as the pastor of the Sni Mills Church which had been closed for 44 years. In those days it was the custom to have services both Sunday morning and evening. Since there was no electricity I moved the Sunday night service to Sunday afternoon. My mother and grandmother made sandwiches which we ate in the church and I went to the cemetery behind the church to pray for the afternoon message. Immediately in the days following we set about cleaning and painting. Since I did not own a car for the first 6 weeks I had to borrow one each time I went to the church. My finance, Carol’s father sold me his on credit so I could have transportation. Our first convert was Sam Tadlock who had been a God and church hater for years. We soon got new seats and used the old ones to build a vestibule. God blessed us with one hundred converts in the next three years.
