Having just got off the phone with a friend of mine who works in the UK gas industry it seems that mass hysteria and blind panic amongst upper management is setting in caused by the ever deteriorating diplomatic relations with Russia and the now very real threat of Russia stopping or at least severely restricting gas and oil supplys to Europe, how does this affect working horses in the UK???? Well apparently according to my friend the UK is highly dependent on a stable energy market and as such has little or no spare capacity at all, if Russia turned off the gas the UK would suffer masive price hikes almost instantly followed by severe gas shortages within 7-14 days thus my friend (who is in management) believes now is a very wise time to be getting into the sustainable wood market both biomass and cordwood (firewood) hence his calling me with the tip:-) so I guess to sum up events on the other side of Europe may conspire to provide a very viable business option for those who have a reduced reliance on fossil fuel and yet have access to a supply of wood (thats us horse loggers for anyone whos still wondering ;-)) Having a large wood pile maybe a very wise idea this year and the is probably better than money in the bank.
