Having lived in Egypt for 6 years during my medical college days back in seventies, it is not difficult for me to analyse the present situation. Egyptian muslim population is divided into 3 factions. A majority "Muslim Brotherhood" believe in islamic reforms through ballot not bullet. They were crushed by Jamal Nasser once and remained underground for decades and in 2011 won the election under Mursi. Second faction emerged as "An-Noor" party, an Islamic extremist group, although non- believer of democracy had to take part in election, took considerable seats but they believe in imposing Islam by force. Third one are "liberals" believe in total secularism in the country once they gained power by Sadaat and Hosnie Mubarak while Brotherhood were still opressed. Army is always with liberals. Americans never liked Mursi because of his anti-Israel policies and popularity. Mursi refused to play in hands of American backed General of the army and old pro-army judiciary. American love both liberals and even extremists who have declared openly that we dont need democracy we want power by bullet. Obviously Army, Librals, Islamic extremists and judiciary have successfully derailed a year old infant democracy and abrogated the constitution with American help. Now they have announced election for ONLY constituent assembly NOT legislative assembly, so that they can change the constitution and Army given the full participation in running the country.
