Having not spoken in weeks, my friend Sarah and I have tried all week to catch up with each other and finally did so with a 2-hour call this afternoon. Our kids attended AIS together. Her youngest son (the one who wants to one day join Doctors without Borders) is in Qatar, attending the Qatar Foundations multiversity, a concept so exciting its about the only thing (after Gerard Butler) that makes me wish I were young again. Like all of us, Sarah was also moved by Robin Williams death, and told me about how she met him and his wife Marcia at a Colorado ski resort. She asked his wife, Does he wake up like that? Is he on all the time? to which the other lady replied, Yes, well, his minds always going. Its not always funny, but it is always intelligent. Since Sarahs two years out of her divorce and Im 21 years out of mine, after a point we talked a bit about the benefits of living intentionally, not putting up with habitual baloney, and how in your life you meet people who help you grow bc theyre positive, and others who (inadvertently) help you grow bc theyre negative. And how, in the end, you thank them both. #grateful
