Having observed state testing K-8 for the last 18 years I can - TopicsExpress

Having observed state testing K-8 for the last 18 years I can truly say that it is a hypocrisy of the worst kind. We test the hell out of kids to see what they learned because education is valuable and in the meantime for those SIX days the tests are going on many other kids in the building are missing out in their education because their teachers are proctoring. In my building the K-2 kids will spend the next three mornings watching movies in the auditorium. How valuable is that? Myself and several of my colleagues had coverages for classes whose teachers were proctoring. (Glorified babysitting) not to mention the stress on administrators who can deal with little else during this time. Its such a disruption to instruction its a shame. There has to be a better way.
