A Black Man’s Tears By: Katima Epting From deep beyond the sky’s blue; to the sweet morning dew- From the belly of the whale; out of the jaws of the shark. From out of the mouth of the lion, that was meant to tear him apart- From beneath the darkest of pits and the darkest of nights- From the deadliest battles and the bloodiest fights- From the womb of powerful queens, an undermined royalty- From a twisted fate, to an empty plate of loyalty- Comes a man deeply rooted in the pain of his past- First in line all the time, but somehow ended up last- Never being able to truly express his feelings; Too afraid to be called weak. Struggling to walk in freedom; to use to shackles on his feet. Free at last? Not even a free pass. Mr. Black man, aka lack man- mowed down like high grass. Never seen as equals; just boys and niggers; Looked for his purpose & thought he found it behind a trigger. Can’t be the man of the house, so he ran like a mouse. Too afraid of being trapped again; that’s why he’s strapped again. Still trying to find himself- how could he take care of anyone else? Rarely loved, always judged; trying to be healed of the scars from over the years; Because everybody sees a black man’s faults; but nobody sees a black man’s tears!
