Hawaiian partnership reaches out to the next generation of island conservationists. This month, the Obama Admiistration announced a $6.7 million grant to hire young people to work on public lands across the nation. Working to restore the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge, KUPU and the Hawaiian Youth Conservation Corps will implement projects that offer hands on opportunities protecting native species; enhance habitat and learning about natural resource conservation based on the Hawaiian concept of “makahana ka`ike,” translated as “in working one learns.” kupuhawaii.org/
