Hazrat Omar (ra), a companion of the prophet Mohammed (saw) and one of the commanders of the Islamic fleet during the 647-649 campaign and his six soldiers were killed by Byzantines and buried in this cave at first by other fellow soldiers. The part of the cave visible is the entrance. The left side of this part, which the sea water has filled with salt and sand is actually the main part of the cave which have protected the martyrs dead bodies without any tiny deformation after 925 years from the first burial. Their bodies were transferred to the present location inside the mosque after the Ottoman Empire has concurred Cyprus in 1571... Subhanallah Al-Fatiha
