He Dont Love You (And Hell Break Your Heart) by Levon & the Hawks - TopicsExpress

He Dont Love You (And Hell Break Your Heart) by Levon & the Hawks was recorded in September 1965 and released as a single on the Atco label later that year, but as far as I can tell, did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 (it likely bubbled under). If thats the case, it may be the best single of the entire 1960s to not reach the Hot 100. Seriously. The former backing band of Ronnie Hawkins, which would go on to become known as The Band and to back up Bob Dylan before heading off toward Cripple Creek and The Weight, perfectly nailed blue-eyed soul here. The Levon of this group is of course Levon Helm, who hits the best rim shot in the history of recorded music at 0:48. Written by Robbie Robertson, lead vocal by Richard Manuel. WHAT A SONG. Turn this one up. youtube/watch?v=DP8JflARO9A
