“He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is - TopicsExpress

“He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever” (Psalm 111:4-5). The psalmist looked back over Israel’s history and recalled God’s wonders. From their deliverance out of Egypt, to the provision for two and a half million people during the forty years in the desert, to the possession of the Promised Land, God did miracles that still stagger the imagination. When we examine our lives and see the hand of God working for us, even when we didn’t believe in Him, we reach the same conclusion as the psalmist. “The Lord is gracious and compassionate.” Satan tempted Eve in the garden by demeaning God’s character and integrity. He still does that, but when all the evidence is in we can say with the writer of this psalm, “The Lord is gracious and compassionate.” There is no other explanation for His care for us. There is no other way for us to understand God sending His Son, Jesus, to redeem us. God is gracious and compassionate. Never forget that! The psalmist proclaimed another truth about God. God remembers His covenant forever. Once He makes a promise He will keep it. When Jesus shared His last Passover meal with His disciples He took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20). God made a covenant with us at the Cross and He has kept it. His blood will never lose its power to save. The world doesn’t understand Him, and too often maligns Him, but we know the truth about God. He is gracious and compassionate.
