He is a great fighter and the combination of explosiveness and speed that come form judo and the high level submission techniques as well as the Japanese training ethic are great. The song Baka survivor is by ulufus (Wolves) is one I like and I like the band. Considering the band is from Osaka, which is the home of the Chonin(merchant) culture that was forced to wear somber colours by the Samurai class who didnt appreciate lower class people having more wealth or influence than them there is a lot I appreciate about him wearing a red go and entering the way he does. That being said I prefer Rickson because he tries to embody the dignified spirit of restraint in fighting that means something in world of violence, even if it is only symbolism and a sport. I have a mixed feelings about turning fighting into a show or sending the idea that it is primarily entertainment to please the crowd rather than a crowd appreciating high level performance. It is important for me to make the distinction because accepting the entertainment logic makes it easier to abuse the rights of the athlete and change the sports rules for the sake of the less knowledgeable among the crowd and that is not good for quality in any art form. What do others think?
