He was the love of my life for nearly 25 years.... Michelle - TopicsExpress

He was the love of my life for nearly 25 years.... Michelle kindly shares why she is attending the Lights of Love ceremony at Hertford Castle on 6th December. “Our experience with Isabel Hospice was great. They helped us though a very difficult time when my husband Graham, aged 48 become ill in June 2013 and was diagnosed with cancer in the August. “We had an Isabel nurse start seeing us in September to keep an eye on how we were doing and she suggested we attend the Day Care Centre for some support. We started going every Wednesday afternoon which Graham did enjoy. He used to have massages or reflexology and even made silk scarfs for Christmas presents! I just used to relax, talk and have a cuppa. “Then sadly we had a bad week after Christmas and had to start using Isabel Hospice for palliative care. I cared for Graham by myself but the Isabel girls where wonderful. We had them nearly every day for 6 weeks they used to come round and then I could relax for a little while knowing Graham was being looked after by some lovely ladies. We had a special day out on 24th January this year to go on the Orient Express for lunch. The Isabel Hospice Palliative Care Support Worker Pat came early to get him ready and another phoned to see what time well be home so she could help get him changed for me when we got home. It was such a special day as we had only got married in October last year and we went for the trip with Grahams best mate (who was also his best man) and his wife. “Sadly Graham lost his fight whilst at home on 11 February 2014, only 8 months after becoming ill. But again, the Isabel girls where there for me that day also coming to get him ready for the undertakers. “Even though hes been gone for 8 months I still cannot believe it. He was the love of my life for nearly 25 years even though we had only been married for nearly 4 months. “Im still being supported by the lovely people at Isabel Hospice having some Bereavement Counselling and I know they will be there for me however long I need them. I just want to say thank you to everyone and I will be at the Lights of Love in Hertford at The Castle on 6th December.” Did you know that just £29 would pay for an hour’s specialist nursing, so please help us to continue to help people like Michelle and Graham. You can make a Lights of Love dedication at isabelhospice.org.uk or call 01707 382500. Our other ceremonies are in Ware (Van Hage 15th November), Buntingford (28th November at The Manor at 6pm) Welwyn Garden City (on the Green outside The Campus 22nd November at 4pm) and Hatfield (15th November at the Galleria).
