Headed to Namilama in Bungoma. A place that I would visit and spend time with my auntie Victoria Simiyu during my early childhood in the 70s. A place that I got acquainted with my uncle Christopher, whom many claim that I inherited both looks and public speaking skills from. A place where I had fond memories interacting with my grand mother Cecilia Kubuliukha as I took a break from Kitale where my dad had migrated and helped set up large scale farming and where we were born. I return to Namilama not to play in the ekewa with my cousins as we did then in the 70s but to say final goodbye to my auntie Victoria as we bury her tomorrow. I return to celebrate a life that has taught us the meaning and value of investing in girl-child education. I return to say final good bye to a soldier who has fought a good fight and kept the faith.
