"The Departments of Political Science, Asian Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies along with The Joiner Institute for the Study of War and Social Consequences The Center for Gender Security and Human Rights and the University Honors Program are pleased to announce: The First Annual Jalal Alamgir Memorial Lecture Dr. Bina D’Costa Australian National University 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 8th CC 2540 Dr. D’Costa works on the nexus between development, human rights and security in South Asia. She is the author of Nationbuilding, Gender and War Crimes in South Asia (Routledge, 2011) and Gender and Global Politics in the Asia-Pacific (Co-edited with Katrina Lee-Koo, Palgrave MacMillan, 2009). She teaches at Australia National University and has held appointments at the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies and the Refugee Studies Center, Oxford University and The Graduate Institute Program on Gender and Global Change, Geneva. Dr. D’Costa has contributed to various projects in Bangladesh, Burma/Myanmar, India, Kenya, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Thailand; and worked as a policy analyst for the Vanderbilt University, UNRISD (United Nations Research in Social Development), UNDP (United Nations Development Program), AusAID and DfID (Department for International Development, UK).
