Heads up for everyone is that we are nearing another 9/11. Not trying to be chicken little but there are some things to keep in mind anytime. Our power grid in my opinion is about the most vulnerable things that could affect us in life changing ways. Without power, all those millions or thousands in the bank would be useless. You would not be able to get gas for your cars. As a practice, I never let my gas get below a half a tank. Hurricanes have warnings but blackout dont. For those of you that live in Long Island as well as Brooklyn and Queens. Do you realize that the 10+ millions of people have only a hand full of bridges and tunnels to get off of the island? Imagine for what ever reason they all want to get away to the mainland, how would you do it? Those with boats and airplanes could get to NJ or Connecticut at least. I for one would be on the other side of the bridge and no where near the subways. Im not saying to change your lifestyle in any major way like moving to the country (I would if I could) but just to do some thinking and taking some precautions. It wasnt that long ago that we had no way of getting gas for our cars and gas was better than dollar bills. We has a blackout that lasted only about 24 hours, imagine if it lasted several weeks or months. Keep enough drinking water and food supplies for as long as practical, just in case. Keep a supply of ready cash and pack a bag with essentials just in case you need to get to a safer location. Have a plan to get to other family members or friends that if your cell phone quits working that you have a pre-determined spot to meet up. Just try to be prepared. I learned that from the Boy Scouts.
