Health Alert: Low Levels of Vitamin D May Raise Early Death Risk. A new study suggests that a genetic predisposition for lower vitamin D levels may increase an individuals risk for an early death. Researchers followed 95,000 study participants for up to eight years and found that those with genetic variants known to affect vitamin D levels were ~40% more likely to suffer a premature death than those without such genetic variants. Clinical trials involving vitamin D supplementation are planned for 2017 to determine if supplementation can be of benefit those with a genetic predisposition for low vitamin D levels.
