Health Update # 37 – December 7, 2014 Psalm 96:3-Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples. Hello Friends: Just had to say that this past Friday I passed two of my significant finish lines – 6 weeks post radiation and my chemotherapy port which was removed the week before! What a great feeling for me to have all of the radiation, including all the other cancer treatments, in the rear view mirror of my life. One way in which I commemorated the occasion of crossing these finish lines was to finally read my husband Kevin’s very detailed medical journal from all the doctor’s appointments pertaining to my cancer. Emotionally I just could not bring myself to reading it before. As I read through the notebook, there were times I wept remembering all the very dark moments. Being the encourager that Kevin always is to me, he pointed out how well I am doing now and all of those events were behind me. He was right and the reality is that it took a team of master designers to get me to this point of doing so well. From the physician who finally made the diagnosis, to the surgeons, and both oncologists. I would not be where I am today without all their wisdom, creativity and the expertise each of them possessed with their skill sets. Causing pause for reflection, a dear friend of mine asked me “What was one of the greatest lessons I had learned through all of this?”; what a great question! Although there were a plethora of answers, I had narrowed it down to this one thought. As the cancerous tumor had grown to a size of 9 centimeters, the physicians assured me that I needed a master plan to once again become healthy. You could not just put me in a bed and hope for the best, wheel me into an operating room and haphazardly begin cutting, or randomly starting shooting beams of radiation at my head. The answer to the question was a reverential awe for the master designer that created my body. Just as there were master designers to execute a plan of health for me, there had to have been a master designer to have put together a human body. Think about these few points alone: • It was miraculous to think our bodies were created with extra bones as spare parts (the fibula in my leg used for my new jaw bone to name one) • The enzymes in our saliva which are used to preserve our teeth • The ability for the body to have systematic cell renewal to replace damaged cells with healthy cells These just scratch the surface of how miraculously crafted are our bodies. As we approach Christmas, how great to know that the birthday we celebrate of that little, tiny baby is really recognition of the Son of God; Jesus Christ our master designer. Yes, I am a follower of Christ and am very grateful to have a personal relationship with Him. He has used my journey of cancer to show His magnificent power to myself and others. He is more than a tiny baby, more than a ceramic figurine and more than a Christmas carol; so glad that baby grew up! We each have to decide how we are going to reckon with Him – accept Him ( He does not like us to be lukewarm) or reject Him. I had to face my own mortality more than once this past year. Part of it was trusting total strangers for the outcome of my life. It was a time that I had to determine what I really believed in with regards to this life and the next. I was given the gift of time to really think it all over. Unfortunately, not everyone gets that gift of time and they are hit by a car, in a plane crash, or have a sudden heart attack. How grateful I am that I began this journey of cancer with Christ by my side and I am winding it up with Him still so very close by my side at the time of His birthday celebration. I truly have a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Thanks everyone for being a part of the Facebook Praying for Sheryl Lunde or email group: great to know that there are a lot of like-minded prayer warriors out there. Merry Christmas! Take Care, Sheryl
